There has been a huge drop in the number of students going to Britain for masters degree, such a decrease was recorded

A large number of students from across the country go abroad for studies. Britain is one of the countries where students go for studies. But according to a report, the number of Indian students in Britain has declined. Especially, there has been a big decline in the number of students taking admission in master’s degree programs. The number of Indian applicants for master’s degree in British universities has decreased by about 21,000 students.

A major reason for the decline in the number of students is the visa ban on students bringing their family dependents, spouses or children. There is a quota of 3,000 visas annually under the New India Young Professional Scheme. Till March this year, 2,105 visas were given to Indian citizens.

According to the report, the number of Indian students has decreased due to visa restrictions in Britain. The government is considering banning graduate visas, which the universities are opposing. By March 2024, 64,372 Indian students had received graduate visas. In 2023, 2.5 lakh Indians went to Britain, while a total of 1 million immigrants came.

A matter of concern for institutions

This is quite surprising and a matter of concern for those institutions which depend on the fees received from foreign students. According to the report, the number of Indian students has declined in the student visas issued till March 2024. Out of 1,16,455 issued visas, 26% are of Indian students, which is 21,717 less than last year. Most of the Indian students going to Britain go to do a master’s degree. Britain has the most famous universities in the world. Every second student dreams of studying there. These institutions include Oxford, Cambridge and Imperial College London etc. From where influential people from all over the world have studied.
